Stump Removal | White Bear Lake | A Cut Above
Most stump problems don't need full removal. For the rare cases that do, we'll walk you through exactly what's involved.
Most stump problems don't need full removal. Stump grinding handles the vast majority of issues — including roots that are getting into plumbing, cracking sidewalks, or causing problems underground. For about 90% of jobs, grinding is the right call and it works. Full stump removal is really only necessary in two situations: you're pouring a new foundation, or you're putting in a brand new driveway. If that's where you're at, A Cut Above will come out, assess the situation, and walk you through exactly what full removal involves and what an excavating company would do to get it done.
When You Actually Need Full Stump Removal
If you're building a new structure or putting in a brand new driveway, grinding won't be enough — you need the stump and root mass completely out of the ground before construction begins. That's when full removal makes sense. For everything else — roots near plumbing, surface damage, yard cleanup, landscaping prep — stump grinding gets the job done. Not sure which one your situation calls for? That's exactly what the estimate is for.
How We Handle Stump Removal
We start with an on-site assessment. The owner comes out personally, looks at the stump size, root spread, and how close it is to structures and utilities, and goes over everything with you directly. From there, he'll tell you exactly what the situation calls for — and whether grinding is actually all you need.
What we do: we grind stumps — deep, in stages if needed — and we handle stumps that have already tipped out of the ground. If the root ball is already up, we can take care of it.
What we don't do: we don't excavate and pull stumps out of the ground. That's specialized work that requires excavating equipment, and we'll be straight with you about that up front. If your project requires complete in-ground extraction, we'll explain exactly what an excavating company will do, what to expect from that process, and what questions to ask. You won't leave the estimate without a clear picture of your options.
