Mike didn't stumble into the tree care business — he grew up in it. Starting as a ground crew member straight out of high school in 1990, he spent the next decade working his way up to boom operator, learning every aspect of professional tree service from the ground up.
Then came the storm of 2000. When severe weather tore through White Bear Lake, Mike grabbed his chainsaw and went to work — not for a paycheck, but for his neighbors. That commitment to community didn't go unnoticed. The reputation he built in those days became the foundation for A Cut Above Tree Service.

Mike began his tree care career as a ground crew member in 1990, spending ten years working his way up to boom operator and mastering every aspect of professional tree service. But even before trees, Mike was a serious rock climber — from the 1980s all the way to 2015, he tackled big climbs like Devil's Tower (twice!), Garden of the Gods, and Twin Owls out in Colorado. That love of climbing naturally carried into his tree work, and over time he shifted from rock walls to tree canopies before eventually settling into the boom — faster, easier, and still every bit as skilled. In 2000, when a severe storm struck White Bear Lake, he stepped up to help his community, building the reputation that led him to found A Cut Above Tree Service. With over three decades of hands-on experience and a near-perfect safety record, Mike brings a level of professionalism and expertise that is truly a cut above the rest.
